Get Involved

Your community arts and heritage centre needs you!

Wells Maltings is for everyone, and to make it fly as a community hub that brings everyone together to enjoy great arts and heritage activities and programmes, we need volunteers to work with us.

As the building work completes and we move towards our planned opening in the late spring of this year, we are looking to build our existing dedicated teams of volunteers. Working across all areas of our business, you’ll be joining a vibrant community within a community. You’ll work with like minded people who care about supporting the cultural life of the town, enjoying all the social benefits of working together, whilst sharing your skills and experience to make the Maltings a success.

You can give as much or as little time as you wish, either in areas that are familiar to you, or in areas that push you and develop new skills. We’ll train you and support you, and give you plenty of opportunity to grow and develop.

As we move towards our opening, we need:

Box office, tourist information and retail volunteers – to sell tickets, promote our events, and support the thousands of visitors to the town each year with advice, information and excellent customer service

Publicity, promotions and PR advocates – to go out into the community and promote our work, distributing leaflets, posters, and generally spreading the word

Front of house stewards – to look after our audiences to live events, checking tickets and supporting the smooth running of shows (and getting the chance to see the events for free!). We also need gallery and heritage centre stewards, to support visitors to exhibitions and shows, answer questions, and make visitor experiences first class

Participation assistants – to work alongside workshop and session leaders in our work with young people and adults in theatre, writing, dance and art activities, learning new skills and supporting participants across the age groups

Archivists, conservators and heritage supporters – to work with our heritage centre staff and local history experts and enthusiasts in looking after a wide array of information, archives and artefacts, and planning and curating future exhibitions

General supporters and do-ers – from time to time, we need luggers, fixers, cookers, arrangers, helpers, pruners and general helping hands to lend assistance in those jobs that just need doing. Everyone at the Maltings gets stuck in to get the job done – and enthusiasm and energy greases the wheels
