About The Granary

seats-150x150The Granary Theatre’s heritage dated back to Georgian times when the then Fisher Theatre was situated in Theatre Road, just a short distance from the Maltings site.

The Granary Theatre was originally part of “The Wells Centre” an arts centre situated in the Maltings and Sackhouse buildings, from 1975 – 1990.  From 1994 to 2016 the theatre hosted regular plays and concerts and was looked after by the Friends of the Granary.

The theatre is now closed as part of the Maltings redevelopment project. The new facility will include a larger auditorium space with retractable seats, improved backstage and front of house facilities. We look forward to welcoming you in the new theatre in the Spring of 2018. In the meantime, occasional live theatre performances and music events are hosted in alternative venues in the town.
