WELLS OF HUMAN KINDNESS
An exhibition of art, poetry and performance based on stories of kindness in the community.
Thu 1 – Tue 27 Jul, 11am – 4 pm daily.
How can artists help make the world a kinder place? This was the starting point for our project, the Museum of Human Kindness.
Wells of Human Kindness is an artistic collaboration between Wells Maltings and the Museum of Human Kindness. What makes this joint work unique is that it not only captures the wonderful community spirit of Wells-Next-The-Sea and its surrounding areas, but also created the opportunity to reflect on the human value of kindness during the worst global pandemic in living memory.
Kindness is ephemeral. It is exchanged through gestures small and large. Receiving unexpected acts of generosity, especially from a stranger can bring immense joy and gratitude, and restore faith in humanity. But the act is often intangible. This project brings creatives from a range of disciplines to visually represent stories of kindness into tangible expressions. From poetry to performance and visual art, each artist worked to bring alive the many experiences contributed by people living in and around Wells. The result is a colourful and stimulating collection of story-based art.
