BRITISH CINEMA AND THE DIGITAL FRONTIER: A TALKS SERIES BY BARNEY BROOM: PART TWO

Show Information

Barney Broom returns after his brilliant Hollywood film talks in the spring, to look at the history, present and future of the British film industry.

The second talk of a series of three.

Talk 2a: BAFTA and David Lean
Bringing his insider perspective on the creative process, director Barney Broom hosts the third in his series of talks to trace David Lean’s journey from the cutting room to co-founding the British Film Academy. He reveals how this meticulous editorial foundation enabled Lean’s transition to directing grand, monumental masterpieces like Lawrence of Arabia.

Talk 2b: The 1960s – Kitchen Sink, Carry On & Other Stuff
With his deep knowledge of British industry history, Barney Broom leads the fourth in his series of talks, highlighting the fascinating 1960s divide between raw, low-budget “Kitchen Sink” realism and unapologetic escapism. He contrasts gritty working-class dramas like Saturday Night and Sunday Morning with the phenomenal parallel success of the 31 slapstick Carry On films.
