Show Information
In the summer of 2017, historian Roger Leivers launched a book called ‘Stirling to Essen’ which tells the true story of the crew of a Short Stirling bomber which crashed near Godmanchester on the 11th April 1942. Two lost their lives, six survived, but of those six only three lived to see VE Day.
One of those men was Sergeant Noel ‘Johnny’ Spalding, a man of Wells. He was eventually lost in action on the 7th September 1942.
To this day he still has relatives living in Wells. Roger Leivers tells his story and that of his crew.
