Exhibition Information

An exhibition celebrating the creativity of our community. Submissions open until 22 May

We are celebrating the creativity of our community in the best way possible this June and July.

We invite all artists resident in the local Wells area to submit work to appear in our NR23 exhibition, which runs in the Handa Gallery from 24 June to 10 July this year.
Whatever your medium – watercolour, oils, photography, screen print, textile or sculpture – we want to hear from you.

We now invite submissions of work, according to the following rules and guidelines:

  • Entry is only open to residents of Wells and surrounding area – within the NR23 postcode area (hence the exhibition title)
  • Up to three pieces of work can be submitted for consideration, in any form
  • The work must be original work by the submitting artist, with intellectual property rights to it. If photography or portraiture is submitted, the permission of the subject/s must have been obtained in writing. If prints are submitted, they must be part of a limit print run of no more than 10
  • We will give strong preference to works that have not been exhibited previously
  • Works submitted are accepted for exhibition on the basis that they will be made ready for exhibiting in our Handa Gallery for the full period of the exhibition by the artist, plus hanging and demounting periods, and that the artist will arrange at their own cost any transportation, delivery and collection
  • Two dimensional works should have a maximum dimension of 1.6m in any direction, and a maximum handling weight of 5kg
  • Works can be either framed or unframed
  • The artist has the right to make works available for sale to the public, and to set the on-the-wall price. VAT and commission will apply to all sales – full details within terms and conditions.

Submission process below.

Submission process:

Artists should submit works by email only to the following address by the closing date of 22 May 2022. Submissions after this date cannot be accepted
Emails should include good quality digital images of each work submitted, plus the name of the work, its medium, and its size, as well as full name and address of the submitting artist, making clear any name variations for professional purposes
Emails featuring digital images should be no larger than 10MB including attachments. We recommend making use of web based file transfer and sharing services such as WeTransfer for large digital files.
We regret that we cannot accept physical submissions of work prior to selection, nor arrange studio visits to view work. All submissions must be via email.

All submitted works will be reviewed by a panel comprising members of the Maltings team, local artists and community members. We will aim to put together a final exhibition that represents the full range of talent, styles and creativity that sit at the heart of the Wells community. We will contact artists regarding works for exhibiting by 5 June, with works to be delivered to us between 6 and 17 June.

Any queries, please email, or call director Simon Daykin on 01328 854651.
