Help us save the Maltings – Capital Appeal launched

Will you help to protect one of our most important local buildings? We are launching an appeal to raise money for urgent repairs and improvements to the Maltings and your support would make the world of difference.

The Maltings in the heart of Wells, with its community rooms and Granary Theatre is enjoyed by thousands of local people and visitors every year. The building provides us with an essential resource for everything from clubs and courses to parties, festivals, fairs, films, music and theatre.

However we have been living on borrowed time. The 200 year old Maltings is now in desperate need of major redevelopment to give Wells the community hub it deserves and North Norfolk the premier Arts and Heritage venue.

Please support this appeal and help to safeguard the future of the historic Maltings. The money raised will not only enable these urgent repairs but will also provide the ‘match funding’ needed to secure a major Lottery grant for the next exciting stage of the project. The aim is to restore, repair and develop the Maltings to provide improved community and arts space, a new heritage and learning centre celebrating our rich local heritage, a new café, central Box Office and Tourist Information Centre.

Support from the community has made the project a great success so far and we should be proud of what we have achieved including:

–       Redevelopment of The Sackhouse to provide seven small local business offices – now fully occupied and paying for itself.

–       Running of Wells Tourist Information Centre, saving it from closure and keeping the service in the town and serving the one million people who walk past The Maltings every year who, in turn, provide the town with massive business opportunities

–       The annual, award winning, Wells Pirate Festival, the annual fundraiser for The Wells Maltings which also brings thousands of visitors to our town.

We need donations large and small.  If you can organise a fund raiser we’d be delighted to add it to our calendar – please make it your preferred charity for your school or business fund raising, or organise a small event such as a whist drive, a talk, a tea party.  Or if you’d just like to donate a modest amount we’ll be thrilled and you can go to our Just Giving Button on this site.  Thank you.
