The Wells Heritage Centre at Wells Maltings is well worth a visit and has four galleries dedicated to the fascinating history of Wells-next-the-Sea. Explore this new interactive space, packed with panels, digital screens, costumes and other props, and find out more about sea and shore! The two downstairs galleries are devoted to interesting facts and figures from Wells’ past, as well as featuring some of the town’s famous historical faces. Plus, children will enjoy following the Smugglers’ Trail, with clues throughout the downstairs galleries and a sticker and small prize at the end.
Meanwhile, upstairs in the Wells Heritage Centre, you’ll find WATER MARKS by Tracey Satchwill which is being shown in the Kiln Room.
This fabulous, fun film provides a fascinating insight into the town’s close connection to the coast, delving back into the history books to see how Wells has developed. Take time out to discover more about the place around you – it’s well worth stopping for! Showings take place throughout the day.
Then in the fourth space, you’ll find GUELLA by Bill Vine – an immersive soundscape enveloping visitors in the voices, noises and sounds of Wells. Take time to listen and find out just what you can hear – it’s open to personal interpretation, so make of it what you will.
